Ahead of the start of the 2026 UFA season on April 24, the league has finalized its ruleset for play. Fans may View/Download the 2026 UFA Rule Book in its entirety.
Changes to the 2026 UFA ruleset include:
- Rule 5.2.6 was added to address defensive fouls at the end of a quarter or overtime period. Previously, it could be advantageous to foul towards the end of a quarter so that the defense could reposition their coverages, most notably by implementing a double team on the thrower/player with the frisbee. Now, if there is a defensive foul with 5 seconds or less remaining in any quarter or overtime period, then the defense may not set up a double team on the thrower when play resumes. If the defense does set up a double team, then a marking violation will be called, and the offense be awarded a 10-yard penalty towards the direction of the end zone. If they are within 10 yards of the end zone, then they will get the frisbee centered on the goal line.
- Rule 13.1.3.4 was added to address fouls in the end zone. Previously, if an offensive player was fouled in the end zone but still caught the frisbee, the goal was awarded, but there was no penalty for the foul. Now, the goal will be awarded and a pass interference penalty will be assessed as well, which will result in a 10-yard penalty on the ensuing pull.
- Section 13.3, which covers unsportsmanlike acts, added a new type of technical foul known as the "team technical foul". A "team technical foul" is assessed to the head coach of the violating team for a repeated infraction by multiple players/members of the team. This ruling is to be used when there is a behavior happening that is detrimental for the game, but cannot be targeted towards a single individual. For example: excessive physicality, such as if a team is repeatedly/intentionally bumping on the mark, then an official may assess a "team technical foul" to the offending head coach. A "team technical foul" results in an immediate 20-yard penalty, and three such infractions or two such infractions plus one flagrant or technical foul accrued by the head coach will result in an automatic expulsion of the head coach from the game.
- Though not a technical rule change, there is an added officiating emphasis on eliminating "jersey tugging". Any player that grabs and holds an opponent's jersey during the course of a point will receive a one (1) game suspension. The player is not ejected during the game but the film will be reviewed by the disciplinary committee after the game. This initiative reflects the league's ongoing commitment to integrity, fair play, and sportsmanship.
